College Selection Process
Good decisions regarding post-secondary institution selection can only be made when the student devotes the time and effort necessary to match his/her particular needs to the institution that will meet those needs.

Points to consider when making college decisions
* Academic reputation and Accreditation of college
* Strength of the departments in your major field of interest
* Entrance requirements
* Co-ed, all men, all women
* Size of the student body
* Student-faculty ratio (number of students for each teacher)
* Geographic location of college
* Religious affiliation
* Campus facilities (housing availability, library size, laboratory)
* Urban/rural setting
* Athletic programs
* R.O.T.C. availability
* Social opportunities
* Cost to attend
* Financial aid availability
* Travel costs
Use the resources found in the guidance office, specifically our College and Career Corners, the individual college catalogs and computer databases (Discover and those available on the World Wide Web) to assist you in identifying the colleges that suit your individual circumstances. Don't forget the FIRST HAND INFORMATION that the college representatives can provide. Attend the Broward National College Fair (during the Fall) and meet with the college representatives as they visit your high school.

Focus in on a small group of colleges that interest you. Check the admissions criteria carefully and arrange to take any college admissions tests that may be required, such as the ACT and the SAT .

Visit each college campus. The real experience will be an invaluable source of information

Apply for admission to at LEAST three colleges. It is recommended that this be done as soon as possible in the fall of the senior year. Check for APPLICATION DEADLINES and be certain to submit your applications well in advance. Notification of acceptance is dependent upon the admission policy of the individual college. Consult the college catalog or their website.
